Science

Why is Science so Important?

Science is an important subject at Meath Green Infant School as it enables children to deepen their understanding and curiosity of the world around them. Science builds a foundation for their critical thinking and problem-solving skills which can be used across all subjects.

How do we Teach Science?

Using the White Rose Science scheme of work, we provide lessons that include first-hand experiences, practical resources, use of our environment, and written questions.  This helps to extend children’s critical thinking, their scientific vocabulary, their collaboration with others and to deepen the context of their learning. Alongside White Rose, we relate science to children’s experiences, allowing them to be fully involved in the learning.

By the Time Children Leave us…

Children will build a strong foundation of scientific knowledge and skills as well as develop an interest and excitement for science. Children will begin to apply their curiosity and critical thinking skills to solve problems. They will feel confident to:

  • Carry out a simple observation

  • Gather and record data

  • Performing simple tests
